As many of you know, I have been pursuing a degree in slugkilling for some years now. At last, I have reached the end of my long journey and am writing up my doctoral thesis on the slugs. MaybeAmanda has been extremely helpful in the process of figure making for the thesis. At left, she illustrates that fateful first meeting between Special Agent Dana Scully and the sea slug. It was not love at first sight.
My committee was intrigued by the results presented in Figure 2.3, but they asked: what about the proper control group? What would happen if Aplysia californica met Special Agent Mulder? So I brought Mulder down to the beach and ran the experiment. Again, Amanda was kind enough to provide the figure. As shown at the right, Mulder clearly has a great figure. The slug... not so much. The results of this experiment confirm the findings of the first experiment with Dr. Scully: Aplysia californica should not pursue a career in the FBI.
